I am often so disgusted with my fellow Christians that I think I ought to become a Jew. But, I know the last thing my Jewish friends want is another Jew for Jesus, so I refrain from my inclination.
My opinion is, Yeshua was Moshiach (the Messiah and King, the wonderful counselor, the Prince of Peace). His name and being were prophesied in the book of Zechariah. I don' understand how the world has missed that fact, but even Christians don't realize it.
1Then he showed me Joshua (in the Hebrew, this name is Yeshua) the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him.
2The LORD said to Satan, "The LORD rebuke you, Satan! Indeed, the LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?"
3Now Joshua (Yeshua) was clothed with filthy garments and standing before the angel.
4He spoke and said to those who were standing before him, saying, "Remove the filthy garments from him " Again he said to him, "See, I have taken your iniquity away from you and will clothe you with festal robes."
5Then I said, "Let them put a clean turban on his head." So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him with garments, while the angel of the LORD was standing by.
6And the angel of the LORD admonished Joshua (Yeshua), saying,
7"Thus says the LORD of hosts, 'If you will walk in My ways and if you will perform My service, then you will also govern My house and also have charge of My courts, and I will grant you free access among these who are standing here.

8'Now listen, Joshua (Yeshua) the high priest, you and your friends who are sitting in front of you--indeed they are men who are a symbol, for behold, I am going to bring in My servant the Branch.
9'For behold, the stone that I have set before Joshua (Yeshua); on one stone are seven eyes Behold, I will engrave an inscription on it,' declares the LORD of hosts, 'and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.
10'In that day,' declares the LORD of hosts, 'every one of you will invite his neighbor to sit under his vine and under his fig tree.'"

Sorry to preach, but this is what I believe. I've got to tell you.
I often wonder at what a jerk I am, or perhaps I should say, at what a jerk I have become.
On 9/11, I told my wife that the world was going to change; we were now clearly at war, and I might end up being called into the military. To my amazement, and my disgust, our country never truly realized the threat we face, and I was, obviously not called into service.
However, as I told my wife, I have one talent in life, and that is the ability to write, and thus, this is what I do.
We need to win this war, my friends. If not, our children are going to live a life of horror unlike any nightmare that we have ever had.
I will do whatever it takes to win.
I will not succumb to the idea that our enemy is our friend because he knows how to speak kind words periodically. I will not succumb to the idea that Islamofascism is a law enforcement problem. I will not succumb to the fatalist Christian idea that we are in the End Times.
I will continue to fight as long as G-d grants me breath in my lungs.
But, as Nietzsche said, be careful that you do not become the monster whom you fight. I sometimes fear that I am becoming a monster. And sometimes, I fear that my fear of becoming a monster might just be the weakening of my resolve.
I am on a road, my path of destiny, and there is no turning back.
If I make mistakes, I pray that G-d will forgive me.
Here is a letter I wrote to my blog partner Publius 2000 last night. I go to church with Publius and I have immense respect for both his intelligence and his decency.
This might just be me exhibiting my insecurities, but one thing I really like about the idea of having you on the show is to demonstrate the kind of ideology I am grounded in.
As you and I and Ronit have discussed from the very beginning of our endeaovors, I am a consistent and passionate mouthpiece, but I am also a jerk. I come off as a bit of a loon. The thing is, I am not a loon, but there is something about the way I represent myself that puts across that idea.
You, in particular, and Ronit as well, come across as more reasonable people than I.
I may be a good mouthpiece, because I am willling to speak out ALL THE TIME, but I think I need help.
I have friends in the blog world who are like you. Baron and Dymphna at Gates of Vienna are similar to you. They are both professorial types who have a lot of respect for what I do.
I see myself as a Thomas Paine type of person. I am an agitator. I am a troublemaker at heart, but/and that kind of thing is needed in times like we are living in.
I am not the bad guy I often represent myself as. I am not just a sloganeer. You know me. I am a person with an appreciation for subtelties and nuances. If I weren't that, I wouldn't be friends with people like you and Ronit.
But, the fact remains, that I am willing to cut through subtelty and nuance more often than most. I am more than willing to summarize complicated ideas into cheapassed slogans for the masses. I think this kind of thing is needed during time of war.
I have developed a very specific strategy to what I am doing (which I choose not to share with anyone).
I believe that I am sacrificing myself for a greater good. I believe I am doing something on a macro-level which is for the best, but if looked at from an individual standpoint, I'm just being an asshole.
You said to me something to the effect of, "Well, if you are ok with what you are doing spiritually, then good for you ...."
Well, like I said, I'm not totally ok with what I'm doing.
But, I'm doing what I'm doing with a bigger strategy.
I'm a propagandist.
I told my wife on 9/11 that this was a talent I have. I have been in advertising all of my adult life. I have an ability to condense and codify complicated ideas. I think I need to do this, and I need to do it for the complicated demographics and psychographics of Western Civilization. We are a very complicated cultue. We are not multicultral, as our leaders would like us to believe, but instead, as free people, we have chosen, many different lifestyles, as is our right.
I am trying to give voice and celebrate that freedom, and that right.
I believe I am doing a good job.
More and more, I recognize that I am in exile from the people that I admire and love. I think you might be one of the few people who has the historical understanding to know that there is precendent for what I do.
Or, maybe, I really am just a jerk.
I don't know.
But, I am trying to do my best to give voice to the concerns of our team. I am trying to make sure that our team (the West) speaks of victory, and not of defeat.
I hope this makes sense to you.
I have no idea how he will respond, and in a sense in doesn't matter, because as I said, this is my destined path.
I would like my Christian friends to understand, but I don't think they will.

"At his core, he was determination," his wife, Stacey, said in remarks during the service. "He never quit. That doesn't mean he never failed. He just kept trying."

The Giants plan to honor Stacey and Rod Beck at their annual "Until There's a Cure Day" event, scheduled for July 27 at AT&T Park. The event raises funds for AIDS education and research.
"He stepped up and gave a face to those with AIDS," Stacey said. "He hugged and kissed children others were afraid to touch. He convinced others to do the same. He helped eradicate shame and ignorance."
Beck was found dead in his northeast Phoenix home Saturday. He was 38. He is survived by Stacey and their two daughters.

JERUSALEM – U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice twice referred to Hamas as a "resistance movement" during a meeting with reporters from the New York Daily News earlier this month, but the newspaper did not report her remarks, WND has learned. Rice's interview is transcribed in full on the State Department website.
Rice's statements mark the second documented time in recent months she called Hamas a "resistance movement" during unscripted chats with journalists.
Hamas is responsible for scores of suicide bombings, shooting attacks and rocket firings. It's classified by the State Department as a terror organization. The group's official charter calls for the murder of Jews and quotes widely from the anti-Semitic creed, the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion."
During the interview June 8 with the editorial board of the Daily News, Rice was asked about the recent history of democratic elections in the Middle East resulting in the rise to power of terror groups, such as Hamas.
Rice told the paper it was "very interesting to see Hamas trying to come to terms with no longer being really a resistance movement, but having to deal with politics."
Rice then referred to Hamas as a resistance movement a second time during then interview. "A moderate Palestinian friend of mine said, 'You know, they (Hamas) used to be the great resistance, running the streets with their faces covered and going after Israel. And now, they look like a bunch of politicians who also can't make the sewer system work.'" Love the qualifier -"moderate."
She went on to reference Hamas' terror cells, calling them the group's "military wing," which regularly carries out terror attacks, including shootings and firing of rockets into Jewish population centers.
"And they're (Hamas) clearly uncomfortable in that framework, which is part of why I think you see the military wing of Hamas trying to make this again about Israel and the Palestinians, not about the contestation of politics inside the Palestinian territories," Rice said.
Rice's remarks were not challenged by the Daily News editors. Much of the interview was conducted by Daily News Chairman Mort Zuckerman, who is also a prominent Jewish leader. Oh puhleeze, Zuckerman is such a schmuck.
Washington, DC... The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) today sent a letter signed by six former U.S. ambassadors to Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, asking him to remove former President Jimmy Carter from his position as Honorary Chairman of Democrats Abroad, an arm of the DNC.
The letter comes in response to statements by Carter which call into doubt his suitability as a representative of the United States abroad. Recently, he criticized the U.S. government for withholding direct aid to Hamas, describing this policy as "criminal." Read the letter here.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Paris Hilton got out of jail Tuesday and immediately got back to being Paris Hilton, summoning a hair-salon van and, by her mere presence, creating a huge traffic jam that angered the neighbors.
It appeared that Hilton's plans to serve God in some way, perhaps by creating a halfway house for former ex-convicts like herself, would have to wait at least a day as she readjusted to the simple life of fame and celebrity.
"There's not going to be a press conference today. I just spoke to Mr. Hilton. They have no plans to make any statement," police Sgt. B. Anthony Roberts told reporters assembled outside the front gate of her grandparents' estate as the newly freed heiress kept a low profile inside. Although Hilton kept out of sight, her presence was still palpable up and down the block, from the TV satellite vans that took up so much room on the narrow street that cars couldn't pass one another to the fast-food luncheon that was passed along to the assembled masses outside.

I am getting some first hand reports from inside of Iran about the situation resulted from fuel ration policy which will go into effect as of tonight midnight (local time) through out the country.Angry people have blocked the main highway in Tehran and several serious clashes have occurred in gas stations across the capital. The amount of anger among the people is such that police forces have refused to intervene in some parts of the city where roads are blocked and people have shattered the buildings' windows. And some reports indicate that 50 petrol stations were set ablaze in Tehran alone and at least 3 people died in the clashes.
We can only ponder and try to get the most from our situation here on Earth. There is a spiritual reality beyond this existence that we cannot fully comprehend as long as we are in these forms that we are in now.
So what can we do?
We can try to be good. We can try to let ourselves grow to include our families, our friends and our fellow human beings.
When I was a child I read something in school that impressed me. It was the philosophy of an Indian — as in Native American — tribe. It said that we as humans start out with an understanding of our selfish needs. Later in life this understanding can grow and we can understand the needs of and feel a oneness with our family, and, as our empathy continues to grow, our tribe, mankind, all life, mother earth, the universe and all existence.
I think that was the most important thing I ever learned in school, and I also think that I learned it by accident. I don’t think I was supposed to learn that the self can grow. I was supposed to learn not to be arrogant about my own culture.
I learned not to be arrogant about my own culture, and I learned it well. For many years I believed everything from other cultures was automatically better then what my own could provide. I lost many important moments with my grandfather, arguing silly things that he didn’t have patience for, nor could he understand how I got them into my head.
I enjoy reading Fjordman’s articles, and how he speculates about how political correctness and Multiculturalism might be connected to or descended from Communism.
But I don’t think that there is a connection, other than the rejection of the self.It’s like having a monkey running amok in our garden with an axe. If you break the axe and the monkey picks up a saw, it doesn’t mean that the saw is somehow a descendant of the axe. It just means that the monkey will do anything to create more destruction.
The monkey here is the rejection of the self. When the self is rejected, there cannot be empathy for others. Instead of letting the self grow naturally, it has been rejected as evil to begin with, and we are left with a hollow human being without the potential for growth.
It’s a Utopian idea: the selfless people of a dream about a perfect world. It must have somehow been inspired by an idea of very spiritually developed people, but when the primitive newborn self was declared evil, this was soon forgotten. And then all manifestations of the self were seen as evil. Love of self, love of family, love of one’s tribe or race, nationalism and so on.
I think Panarath has hit on something very important here. When you think about it, all totalitarianism relies on the rejection of the self.
The Judeo-Christian tradition, on the other hand, teaches that the person is so important, as an individual self, that all should be granted equal rights; the right to free speech, to own property, and to equal protection under the law.
The Bible tells us that we, as individual selves, are so important that God would lay down the life of His only begotten Son so that, if we believe in Him, we may have everlasting life, and share it with Him. Jesus, himself, fretted over the one lost individual so much so that was said,
What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?
When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them,
'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!'
Our Declaration of Independence tells us, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
We are the inheritors of such a tradition. We ought to protect it. It is precious.
I'm sure Alan Johnston feels good about all the support he's getting from his fellow journalists as he sits, somewhere, in some small, dark room, with guns pointed at his head. From No Pasaran:
At roughly 1315 UTC, at the same time the BBC was having an on-air "silent vigil" for the release of kidnapped BBC correspondent Alan Johnston, a clan member of the group holding him had his head blown off by masked men.
Munir Dughmush was shot while standing outside a building in Gaza City's Zaitoun neighborhood, sources in the Gaza Strip said. They said masked gunmen opened fire at him, killing him instantly.
Following the incident, foreign journalists were advised to stay away from the Gaza Strip for fear of reprisal.
They recently said they were willing to talk about releasing Johnson.
How then does a highly influential subculture of fantasists with moral uncertainty and journalism degrees defend its’ own against another highly influential subculture of fantasists with amoral tactics and small arms? It doesn’t.
I‘m sure those who participated in the big BBC-staffer group hug believed that their vigils, websites, sign-bearing, and pot-banging will somehow appeal to the compassion of those who hold Johnston and get him released. This would only be possible if there was a way in Gazan militant society to actually act with compassion (if one was capable of it), and even yet not get shot by someone else if you try.
All their “campaigning” has done is raise the man's stock.
The more of a pointless a stink they make about Johnston’s captivity, the more he's worth as a captive.
Which brings us to the the accompanying photo. Journalists without borders who seem to want to conceal their identity to even show empathy for one of their kidnapped fellow journalists. Even if they are just kids imagining their hearts are with him - Indeed they’re displaying the fear that they themselves have sewn by the over-reporting and giving too much importance and credence to the causes of Johnston’s captors.
The Left Front: The Left Will Try To Revive The Fairness Doctrine
Air America failed because no one wanted to listen to it. It is possible that this is because it was just a particularly bad example of left-wing radio. Or, it is possible that left-wing ideas just do not translate well through the medium of talk radio.
Whatever the case, the left, as per usual, can not sit idly by and accept the results of the market. Instead, they must regulate the market to make sure that everyone (meaning everyone on the left) has a "fair" chance.
Our conclusion is that the gap between conservative and progressive talk radio is the result of multiple structural problems in the U.S. regulatory system, particularly the complete breakdown of the public trustee concept of broadcast, the elimination of clear public interest requirements for broadcasting, and the relaxation of ownership rules including the requirement of local participation in management.
Ultimately, these results suggest that increasing ownership diversity, both in terms of the race/ethnicity and gender of owners, as well as the number of independent local owners, will lead to more diverse programming, more choices for listeners, and more owners who are responsive to their local communities and serve the public interest.
Along with other ideas, the report recommends that national radio ownership not be allowed to exceed 5 percent of the total number of AM and FM broadcast stations, and local ownership should not exceed more than 10 percent of the total commercial radio stations in a given market.
Anyway, I do think it is arguable what percentage of radio stations a corporation like Clear Channel ought to be allowed to own in a given market. However, attempting to ensure a certain percentage of minority and local ownership is racist in nature, and an a socialistic restriction of free trade to boot.
The Left's solutions are always the same, aren't they? More and more government restrictions under the guise of trying to help minorities and women.

We just don't get it. The Left in America is screaming to high heaven that the mess we are in in Iraq and the war on terrorism has been caused by the right-wing and that George W. Bush, the so-called "dim-witted cowboy," has created the entire mess.
The truth is the entire nightmare can be traced back to the liberal democratic policies of the leftist Jimmy Carter, who created a firestorm that destabilized our greatest ally in the Muslim world, the shah of Iran, in favor of a religious fanatic, the ayatollah Khomeini.
Carter viewed Khomeini as more of a religious holy man in a grassroots revolution than a founding father of modern terrorism. Carter's ambassador to the UN, Andrew Young, said "Khomeini will eventually be hailed as a saint." Carter's Iranian ambassador, William Sullivan, said, "Khomeini is a Gandhi-like figure." Carter adviser James Bill proclaimed in a Newsweek interview on February 12, 1979 that Khomeini was not a mad mujahid, but a man of "impeccable integrity and honesty."
The shah was terrified of Carter. He told his personal confidant, "Who knows what sort of calamity he [Carter] may unleash on the world?"
Well, we see now, don't we? Carter is even willing to support Hamas, and their calls for genocide, and their coup d'etat in Gaza, as Democracy.

This is remiscent of the story of Moses looking down on the promisedland from Mount Nebo on the night before he died.

Britain joined the United States' invasion to oust the Taliban in 2001 because it feared America would "nuke the shit" out of Afghanistan, the former British ambassador to Washington reportedly told a television documentary to be screened Saturday.
In comments printed in advance in the Daily Mirror tabloid on Monday, Christopher Meyer said that fear explained why Prime Minister Tony Blair chose to stand with US President George W. Bush in his decision to invade Afghanistan in the immediate aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks -- to temper his aggressive battle plans.
"Blair's real concern was that there would be quote unquote 'a knee-jerk reaction' by the Americans ... they would go thundering off and nuke the shit out of the place without thinking straight," Meyer reported told the documentary, according to the Mirror.
In other excerpts of the documentary, printed in The Observer newspaper on Sunday, members of Blair's inner circle said the prime minister agreed to commit troops to the March 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq despite believing that the United States had failed to prepare adequately for post-war reconstruction.

I have refrained from commenting on this case though because I tend to only concentrate on issues which I consider to have international importance. But, I must say, I am very happy to see that justice has been served:
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - District Attorney Mike Nifong will be disbarred for his disastrous prosecution of three Duke University lacrosse players falsely accused of rape, a disciplinary committee decided Saturday. Even the veteran prosecutor said the punishment was appropriate.
"This matter has been a fiasco. There's no doubt about it," said committee chairman F. Lane Williamson.
Nifong sat motionless, one hand resting over his mouth, as Williamson recounted how he engaged in dishonest and deceitful conduct. He said Nifong's early comments about the case—which included a confident proclamation that he wouldn't allow Durham to become known for "a bunch of lacrosse players from Duke raping a black girl"—were purposefully designed to boost his campaign for district attorney.
"At the time he was facing a primary, and yes, he was politically naive," Williamson said. "But we can draw no other conclusion that those initial statements he made were to further his political ambitions."
Nifong will not appeal the punishment, his lawyer said.
Nifong should probably have to serve time in prison as well, but I never expected even a disbarrment. Good deal.
The man is a disgrace, and I hope he is treated as a disgrace wherever he goes from now on.
He ought to have no more opportunities in any positions of power. If he wants to redeem himself by serving, well then, great. But, I really hope everyone has the sense to treat this man as the pariah he is.
The prosecutor, Mike Nifong, is a thoroughly dishonorable fellow. You can't blame him, really, for seizing his main chance and perverting every principle of prosecutorial ethics, because he only did it for personal gain. He was acquainted with Crystal Mangum and her family from a previous case, and seized upon her accusations just when the Durham Police were about to conclude, based on pending DNA evidence, that there was nothing to do.
Nifong was motivated primarily by ambition and greed. He is honestly corrupt, and didn't see anything wrong in destroying 3 innocent lives so that he could portray himself as the champion of the poor, the downtrodden, and the African-American, thus positioning himself to garner the slim margin he needed in order to be elected District Attorney and magnify his pension. To achieve his goal, Nifong set up improper and irregular interviews with the accuser, pilloried his 3 innocent victims in biased and misleading press briefings, and concealed and misrepresented critical DNA evidence.
The North Carolina State Bar Association's brief against him is entirely damning, and the State Attorney General's dismissal of all charges against the Lacrosse players, and his characterization of Nifong's zealous prosecution, used unprecedented language in lambasting Nifong for being just the sort of scoundrel he is. At a minimum, he will be disbarred for life. His conduct in this case was so outrageous that he is probably also liable for civil damages. I would not be surprised if he ends up behind bars, as well.
As I mentioned in the post below, Chris Cornell is one of my favorite singers. I loved him with Soundgarden, Audioslave, and solo. I remember seeing him in concert once and I came away with the sad impression that he might have been the angriest man I had ever seen who had not killed himself.
Well, he seems to be undergoing some sort of change. Thank God for him and his talent and for God's saving Grace. And, I hope and pray he comes through it ok.

There is a civil war going on in Gaza. Hamas is rounding up and killing the Fatah "Security Forces."
You just know people will figure out a way to blame the Jews for it. Only, how? How could they possibly blame the Jews for the fact that two Palestinian factions are at war with each other?
The Hamas campaign to eradicate Fatah from Gaza is certainly not the sole cause of Gazans’ misery. They long suffered from Israel’s suffocating occupation, and then from Ariel Sharon’s foolishly unilateral withdrawal in 2005, a move that allowed Hamas to bid for power with the misleading claim that its rockets and suicide bombings had driven Israeli soldiers and settlers out of Gaza. Gazans were victimized as well by the corruption and misrule of Yasser Arafat’s Fatah cronies.
Got that? It's the Jews fault, because of the occupation, AND it is the Jews fault that they stopped occupying Gaza.
So, what words should reasonable people choose to describe our feelings about such reasoning? Well how about this:

Following the ensuing uproar, Gum’a came to the defense of his fatwa, saying: ”The entire body of the Prophet, whether exposed or hidden, is pure, and there is nothing in it– including his secretions – that [can] repulse anyone. His sweat smelled better than perfume. Umm Haram would collect this sweat and distribute it to the people of Al-Madina.“
Dr. Gum’a added: ”The hadith of Suhail bin Omar at Al-Hudaybiya says: ‘Oh Lord, I was with Kisra [the ruler of Persia] and with Kaisar [the ruler of Byzantium] and I saw no instance in which the leader was glorified like the Companions of the Prophet glorified Muhammad. The second Muhammad spat, one of them would immediately hasten [to grab his saliva] and smear it upon his face.’ Hence, the ulema, including Ibn Hajar Al-Askalani, Al-Baihaqi, Al-Daraqutni and Al-Haythami, determined that the Prophet’s entire body was pure."

According to a high-ranking American military officer, the US Navy and Air Force would play the primary roles in any military action taken against Iran. One idea under consideration is a naval blockade designed to cut off Iran’s oil exports.
The officer said that if the US government or the UN Security Council decided on this course of action, the US Navy would most probably not block the Strait of Hormuz - a step that would definitely draw an Iranian military response - but would patrol farther out and turn away tankers on their way to load oil.

Never is it mentioned that when the Arab Muslim establisment ran out of Christians and animists to kill they set to work killing the black Sufi Muslims, and that it was only when the government began killing Muslims that the media began covering the situation in earnest.
No my Church would never mention these facts, because it would mean condemning Islam explicitly for its evil melding of religion and politics.

Darfur is a catastrophe that could and should be solved in an hour or so. The killers largely operate from helicopters and small fixed wing aircraft. We could destroy them all in an hour or so. But that would be "wrong," because it would violate the current hymnal.
Go tell the victims. Explain why sanctions are better, because it makes the Western politicians feel pious. Even though black Africans are being slaughtered.
And while you're at it, tell the starving people of Zimbabwe why their killer and oppressor, Robert Mugabe, is left untouched by the entire outside world. Explain why St Nelson Mandela doesn't give a damn, while you're at it.
The Middle East is tough. These African horrors are relatively easy to fix. But nobody does a damn thing except talk about sanctions...and then largely fail to enact and/or enforce them. When did Western leaders become vulgar Marxists? These evils do not have economic causes and are unlikely to be defeated by economic means (remember the Iraqi sanctions?). They have political causes and can be defeated by superior fire power.
Recently I interviewed Don Cheadle, who starred in that marvelous film Hotel Rwanda a year or two back. He's now written a book about Darfur. Very nice fellow. But he doesn't seem to appreciate that the big lesson of Rwanda is that the thugs understand very clearly that whenever the west starts working through the UN it sends the message: We're not serious. Indeed, we're so unserious we're going to "solve" this problem through a process which gives mass murderers the one thing you need if you want to kill hundreds of thousands of people - time.
So Cheadle's book proposes all kinds of things you the citizen can do for Darfur - write your Congressman, send a letter to the local paper, etc. There's a lot of it about. A week or two back, the following caught my eye:
"On Sunday, April 29, Salt Lake Saves Darfur invites the greater Salt Lake community of compassion to join with us as we honor the fallen and suffering Darfuris in a day of films, discussion and dance with a Sudanese dance troupe."
Very nice. But wouldn't it make more sense to try the Ledeen solution and save the Sudanese dance troupe for the post-victory party? "Salt Lake Saves Darfur" looks like doing wonders for "the greater Salt Lake community of compassion" but rather less for the people of Darfur. There is a grotesque narcissism in the determination of the Save Darfur campaign to embrace every strategy except the one that would actually save Darfur while there's anyone still left to save. The reality seems to be that these groups prefer to go the ineffectual dance-troupe route because it makes them - the "community of compassion" - the focus of things.
Here's what I think of the "community of compassion": they are so wrapped up in their communal mental masturbation--which brings them pleasure, and reinforces in their mind what wonderful, caring people they are--that they lack appreciation for the real world outside their feelings. They mean well. In fact, they care so much, it postively makes me puke.

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's president said on Sunday the Lebanese and the Palestinians had pressed a "countdown button" to bring an end to Israel.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who triggered outrage in the West two years ago when he said Israel should be "wiped off the map", has often referred to the destruction of the Jewish state but says Iran is not a threat.
"With God's help, the countdown button for the destruction of the Zionist regime has been pushed by the hands of the children of Lebanon and Palestine," Ahmadinejad said in a speech.
"By God's will, we will witness the destruction of this regime in the near future," he said. He did not elaborate.
Iran has described the war last summer between Hezbollah in Lebanon and Israel as a victory for the Iranian-backed group. Tehran also often praises the Palestinians for what it says is resistance against Israeli occupation.
Ahmadinejad was speaking ahead of Monday's anniversary of the death in 1989 of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, whose words Ahmadinejad echoed when he called for Israel to be "wiped off the map".
The president's comments caused consternation in Israel and the West, which also fear Iran is seeking to build an atomic arsenal under cover of a civilian nuclear power program, a charge Tehran denies.
Although Ahmadinejad has said Iran is not a threat to Israel, Iranian officials have said Tehran would respond swiftly to any Israeli attack. Some analysts have speculated Israel could seek to knock out Iran's atomic sites.

Film maker Brooke Goldstein traveled to the West Bank and filmed more than five hours of interviews with terrorists and their brainwashed children. She went into it believing the situation had been exaggerated—but found it was worse than she could have imagined: Recruited To Die.
As the group walked through the town, they spoke to Palestinian Arab children in schools and on the street. “Our fixer was encouraging us to speak with the children. I think I’d always, deep down, had a hard time thinking the problem was really that bad. I thought maybe it was a lunatic fringe,” she said.
In fact, the fanaticism was worse than she ever imagined. “The most shocking thing was reconciling the normal appearance of these kids and what was coming out of their mouths,” she said. “I was holding these beautiful children in my lap, and my translator was translating words of hate.”
The story was always the same. “No child ever said, ‘I don’t want to be a martyr.’ They talked about fame, paradise, virgins, and Ferris wheels [after death]. They were happy to tell me they hated Jews,” she said.
The children were more fanatical than their parents. “When we interviewed Hussam’s family for the film, his parents were distraught. They don’t believe in this whole child suicide bomber concept,” Ms. Goldstein said. “Then I interviewed his sister, who was like, ‘I’m so proud of my brother. Hamas says he’s a hero.’ At one point she had a loser, dwarf, mentally handicapped brother. Now she’s the coolest girl in class, and very proud.”
In addition to the children, Ms. Goldstein interviewed Mr. Zubeidah, commander of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades in Jenin. At the time, the Israel Defense Forces had made five attempts to assassinate him. In person, Mr. Zubeidah was not the harsh figure she had expected. “It was like talking to any other kid, about 27 years old,” she said. “He was smiling. My translator told me, ‘He’s talking about killing Jews.’”

Only the seventh-grade boys were allowed to host the food stations and the Arabic dancing, as the traditions of Saudi Arabia at this time prevent women from participating in these public roles.
